Wrongful term 14

CHARLESTON – A black man alleges he was terminated without any reason or justification from his job.

Chris Smith filed a complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against Alford Home Solutions Inc. alleging that the former employer violated the West Virginia Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began his employment with the defendant March 12 as a warehouse worker. He alleges the same day, he received a text message from human resources instructing him not to return to work.

The plaintiff holds Alford Home Solutions Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected him to adverse employment actions due to his race.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory and punitive damages, attorney's fees, costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and such other legal and appropriate relief. He is represented by Scott H. Kaminski of Kaminski Law LLC in Charleston.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Tod J. Kaufman.
