WHEELING — Two parents are suing a Wheeling health care service provider, alleging gross negligence in the treatment of their newborn child.

Luke Myers and Karah Myers, individually and on behalf of their minor child R.M., filed a complaint in Ohio Circuit Court against Wheeling Hospital Inc., alleging the hospital negligently deviated from the standards of care in the operation of a health care facility.

According to the complaint, on May 1, 2014, R.M. was born at Wheeling Hospital. During the course of R.M.'s early newborn period, the suit says, her glucose levels became critically low. Due to defendant's employees negligence, the parents say, R.M. suffered severe and permanent injury and disability that will require continuous medical care in the future.

The plaintiffs allege Wheeling Hospital failed to properly diagnose, monitor and treat R.M.'s medical condition.

Luke and Karah Myers seek trial by jury, compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages, civil penalties, attorney fees, costs, interest and all other just relief. They are represented by attorneys Scott S. Segal and C. Edward Amos of The Segal Law Firm in Charleston, and by Michael F. Becker and Holly M. Moore of The Becker Law Firm in Elyria, Ohio.
