Kanawha sheriff alleges Pritchard Mining owes more than $120,000 in taxes

CHARLESTON – A mining company in Kanawha County is alleged to have failed to pay property taxes for three years.

Michael Y. Rutherford, sheriff and ex officio treasurer of Kanawha County, filed a complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against Pritchard Mining Co. Inc. alleging failure to pay tax liabilities.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that as of June 14, the defendant is indebted to the sheriff for the payment of taxes and fees on personal property in the sum amount of $129,794.25. 

The plaintiff holds Pritchard Mining Co. Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to make tax payments and fees for tax years 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in the amount of $129,794.25, plus post-judgment interest, costs and such other just and proper relief. He is represented by Spencer D. Elliot of Lewis Glasser PLLC in Charleston.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Carrie Webster.
