PRINCETON – A woman alleges she fell and broke multiple teeth while being treated at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

Joann S. Coates filed a complaint in Mercer Circuit Court against Dr. Martine Tamara Silver and Bluefield Hospital Co. LLC, doing business as Bluefield Regional Medical Center, alleging medical professional liability.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 17, 2017, she presented to the defendants for complaints of heavy and uncontrollable vaginal bleeding. She alleges she fell while at the Bluefield Regional Medical Center and broke multiple teeth and was later diagnosed with a concussion.

The plaintiff holds Silver and Bluefield Hospital Co. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to appropriately monitor her during her visit and evaluate her fall risk.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in excess of the jurisdictional limits of the court, attorney's fees, costs and expenses and such other and further relief deemed appropriate. She is represented by Brian J. Headley, Jason S. Ballard and Jonathan K. Matthews of Headley Ballard LLC in Pearisburg, Virginia.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Mark Wills.
