HUNTINGTON — A patient is suing a Huntington medical center, alleging breach of confidentiality and invasion of privacy.

I.M. filed a complaint in Cabell Circuit Court against St. Mary's Medical Center, Inc., doing business as St. Mary's Medical Center, Samalin Spurlock, a medical center employee, and John Does 1-5, alleging inappropriate and improper access to the plaintiff's confidential medical information.

According to the complaint, in June 2017, I.M. came to St. Mary's Medical Center for medical services. She says during her treatment, she was encouraged to, and necessarily had to, disclose information of a personal and confidential nature.

However, the suit says, her confidential information was accessed and/or shared without her permission, which contained her confidential medical information.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants breached their duty to I.M. to maintain the confidentiality and privacy of her medical records.

I.M. seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees, court costs and any other just and proper relief. She is represented by attorneys Richard W. Weston and Connor D. Robertson in Huntington.
