CHARLESTON — The state insurance commissioner is suing a pet business owner, alleging violation of workers compensation acts.
The state of West Virginia ex rel. Offices of the West Virginia Insurance Commissioner filed a complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against Jennifer Moses, doing business as Pups N Purrs, alleging the defendant violated West Virginia laws by defaulting on payments of workers compensation insurance.
According to the complaint, despite the commissioner monitoring and enforcing all workers compensation-related laws in West Virginia, Pups and Purrs did not maintain coverage for its employees' compensation insurance.
As a result, the plaintiff alleges these practices continue to cause irreparable harm to the employers and claimants served by the commissioner, as well as West Virginia taxpayers.
The plaintiff alleges Pups N Purrs has failed to obtain and/or maintain coverage for workers compensation insurance or has defaulted on payments.
The state of West Virginia ex rel. Offices of the West Virginia Insurance Commissioner seek trial by jury, penalties, satisfy the plaintiff that the defendant has ceased working with employees in West Virginia and submitted a proper termination form. The commissioner's office is represented by attorney David Ansell of Charleston.
