Marshall County couple sues over exploding soda can

MOUNDSVILLE — An exploding soda can prompted a lawsuit against five large companies.

Lois and Michael Woods filed a complaint in Marshall Circuit Court against Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Cott Corporation, Cott Beverages Inc., Refresco Group NV, and Refresco Beverages U.S. Inc.

According to the complaint, a can of Great Value Sparkling Lemonade Low Calorie exploded and the can's rim hit Lois Woods in the head. She suffered permanent loss of hearing, as well as pain and suffering, the complaint states. Michael Woods is suinig over losing his marital consortium and future care of Lois Woods. 

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendants for compensatory and general damages, attorney's fees and court costs. They are represented by Patrick E. McFarland of Patrick E. McFarland PLLC in Parkersburg.
