HUNTINGTON — A Summers County couple is suing St. Mary's Medical Center Inc. et. al., for alleged negligence.

Mark Richmond and Sandra Richmond filed a complaint in Cabell Circuit Court against St. Mary's Medical Center Inc., claiming that the health care providers negligently deviated from the accepted standards of care regularly practiced by well-qualified health care providers.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that, between June 13, 2016, and June 23, 2016, Mark was under the care of the defendants when he underwent heart bypass surgery. As a result of the defendant's negligence, Mark suffered injuries and an infection that required additional medical treatment. The plaintiffs claim St. Mary's Medical Center Inc. is responsible because it failed to properly remove all of the temporary pacing wires placed inside Mark's abdomen, which resulted in an infection.

Sandra suffered loss of consortium of her husband as a result of the negligence, according to court documents.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, plus interest, as well as other relief. They are represented by John J. Mize of Mize Law Firm PLLC in Beckley.
