PINEVILLE — A Wyoming County woman is suing the local school board, alleging negligence caused her to fall outside a school.

Clara Bell Cline filed a complaint in Wyoming Circuit Court against the Wyoming County Board of Education, alleging the board negligently created an unsafe condition when it did not provide adequate lighting on school property.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 19, 2018, Cline tripped and fell on the sidewalk outside the defendant's Baileysville Elementary and Middle School cafeteria in Brenton. She says she sustained two fractures to the left wrist. On Jan. 23, the suit says, Cline underwent surgery wherein she suffered a mild heart attack and mild stroke.

The plaintiff alleges the Wyoming County Board of Education failed to correct the dangerous condition and failed to provide adequate warning of the existing danger of the poorly lit sidewalk.

Cline seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, interest, costs, fees and expenses and all other just relief. She is represented by attorneys Stephen P. New and Amanda J. Taylor of Beckley.
