BECKLEY — A Fayette County customer is suing a Beckley bakery, alleging negligence led to injuries to the plaintiff.

Gilberta Patterson filed a complaint in Raleigh Circuit Court against Flowers Baking Co. of West Virginia LLC, alleging negligently allowing a rug to be positioned in such a way that it could cause individuals to trip over it.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 21, 2016, Patterson was a customer at Flower Baking in Beckley when she tripped over a rug that was "hooved up" near the exit. The suit says the trip caused Patterson to fall and strike the door with her shoulder.

Patterson says she has incurred and continues to incur medical expenses, pain and suffering and loss of enjoyment of life. The plaintiff alleges Flowers Baking of West Virginia failed to give adequate warning or notice of the dangerous condition.

Patterson seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages, with interest, court costs and expenses and all other just and appropriate relief. She is represented by attorney William R. Wooton of Wooton & Wooton in Beckley.
