MORGANTOWN — A Monongalia County husband and wife are suing health care providers, alleging negligence.
Dennis G. Zahranik and Hilda R. Ready filed a complaint in Monongalia Circuit Court against Dr.. Lloyd Kurth, Dr. Neil Zervos and Mountainstate Orthopedic Associates Inc., alleging failure to exercise the degree of care, skill and learning expected of prudent health care providers.
According to the complaint, in March 2015, Dennis Zahranik came under the care of defendants for knee pain, including Kurth performing a total knee replacement surgery. As a result of the defendants' negligence, the suit says, Zahranik's knee continued to swell and he had significant pain that led to multiple subsequent surgeries.
The suit states Zahranik's right leg is now 1 1/2 inches longer than his left leg, causing problem with his gait and with back pain. The plaintiffs allege the defendants negligently deviated from the standard of medical care by failing to properly implant the replacement knee components.
The plaintiffs seek trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, with interest, costs and all other just and equitable relief. They are represented by attorney Jane E. Peak of Allan N. Karlin & Associates in Morgantown.
