Vehicle passenger alleges another driver caused crash

Lawsuits

WHEELING — A Wheeling man is suing a driver and an employer, alleging negligence and negligent hiring caused a vehicle crash that injured the plaintiff.

Travis B. Hoard filed a complaint in Ohio Circuit Court against Charles G. Espenscheid and Jim Robinson Inc., alleging Jim Robinson Inc. negligently hired and retained Espenscheid as a courtesy driver.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 15, Hoard was a passenger in an automobile driven by Kera Holmes when they were involved in a head-on collision with the defendants' vehicle driven by Espenscheid on Interstate Highway 70 E near milepost 7 in Ohio County. Hoard said he suffered severe injuries, resulting in mental anguish, pain and suffering, lost wages and medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges Espenscheid was working for Jim Robinson Inc. when he failed to control his vehicle and caused the head-on collision by driving the wrong way on the road.

Hoard seeks trial by jury, damages in excess of the jurisdictional limits of the court, interest, court costs and all other appropriate relief. He is represented by attorneys Wray V. Voeggelin and Patrick S. Cassidy of Cassidy, Cogan, Shapell & Voeggelin LC in Wheeling.

Ohio Circuit Court case number 18-C-218
