Employee accuses pipeline service business of sexual harassment

Wrongful term 11

MOUNDSVILLE — A Marshall County woman is suing an oil and gas pipeline business, alleging assault, battery, hostile work environment, sexual harassment, vicarious liability and wrongful discharge.

Julia Fletcher filed a complaint in Marshall Circuit Court against Strike LLC and Scott Segers, alleging violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, Fletcher began working for Strike as a pilot driver Feb. 23. The suit says she experienced inappropriate verbal and physical sexual harassment and physical contact by Segers, her supervisor, which started early in her employment. Fletcher says this behavior escalated to the point that she started fearing for her safety and eventually was forced her into quitting her job.

The lawsuit states Fletcher has suffered monetary injury and damages, including lost wages and benefits, aggravation, emotional distress, humiliation, loss of dignity and mental anguish.

The plaintiff alleges Strike failed to take action toward Segers, who remains employed despite criminal actions and creating a sexually hostile work environment.

Fletcher seeks trial by jury, all compensatory damages, including lost wages and benefits, attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorneys Amy C. Crossan and Neil R. Bouchillon of Bouchillon, Crossan & Colburn LC in Huntington.
