BECKLEY — A Raleigh County man is suing hospital operators, alleging unlawful detention and negligence.

Ricky Charles Stover filed a complaint in Raleigh Circuit Court against Appalachian Regional Healthcare Inc., doing business as Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, et al,  alleging they breached their duty not to injure the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 11, 2017, while in Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital to be treated for depression following a marital breakup, Stover was forcibly detained by hospital security guards, causing considerable injury to his throat and neck. The suit says Stover was caused medical bills, pain and suffering, emotional distress, inconvenience and loss of enjoyment of life.

The plaintiff alleges Beckley ARH failed to properly train and supervise its security guards.

Stover seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, plus interest, court costs, attorney fees and all other just and proper relief. He is represented by attorneys Kyle G. Lusk, Matthew A. Bradford and Brandon L. Gray of Lusk & Bradford PLLC in Beckley.
