PRINCETON — An estate executor is suing a medical doctor, citing alleged negligence.

Kimberly Christian, executor of the estate of Shelby Jean Brookman, filed a complaint in Mercer Circuit Court against Dr. Gene Duremidas alleging that he breached his duty by failing to meet the standard of care.

According to the complaint, Christian alleges that on Dec. 9, 2018, her mother, Shelby Jean Brookman, came under the care of the defendant due to severe abdominal pain. As a result in a delay in surgery, her large and small intestines were severely damaged, which caused her suffering and her death on Dec. 10, 2018. The plaintiff holds Duremidas responsible because he allegedly failed to immediately perform surgery upon reviewing the decedent's condition and extremely high lactic acid levels.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in an amount to be determined by jury, plus interest, costs and such other relief affordable by law. She is represented by Mark W. Carbone of Law Office of Mark W. Carbone PLLC in Charleston.
