HUNTINGTON — An invitee is suing a department store retailer, citing alleged negligence and premises liability.

Betty Watts filed a complaint in Cabell Circuit Court against Target Corporation alleging that it breached its duty to keep its premises in a reasonable safe condition.

According to the complaint, Watts alleges that on Dec. 26, 2016, she was attempting to enter Target department store when she tripped and fell upon a screw head that was protruding from the bottom floor plate. She suffered bodily injuries and incurred medical expenses and lost wages.

The plaintiff holds Target Corporation responsible because it allegedly failed to provide adequate lighting, failed to keep passageway clear from obstructions and failed to give adequate warning of the existing danger.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, with interest, costs and such other proper and fair relief. She is represented by Kendal E. Partlow of Partlow Law Offices PLLC in Wayne.
