BECKLEY — A decedent's representative is suing a medical center, citing alleged negligence.
Brenda Clements, executor of the estate of Charles Clements filed a complaint in Raleigh Circuit Court against Stephen Blaydes, M.D.; Angela Presley, FNP-BC; Danette Croaston, CRNA; Prime Health Associates, LLC d/b/a Beaver Family Clinic and Sharp Anesthesia, LLC for allege violation of the applicable standard of care when they failed to refer decedent to a cardiologist for cardiac clearance.
According to the complaint, on Jan. 11, 2017, Charles Clements was evaluated to receive medical clearance for an elective cataract-removal procedure. Despite his long history of cardiac problems, the defendants cleared him for the procedure and he was not examined by a cardiologist.
As a result, during the procedure, he developed bradycardia and ventricular fibrillation, and went into cardiac arrest for five minutes. He showed hyp ischemic injury, with infarction, status-post cardiac arrest and eventually passed away on Jan. 29, 2017.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants subjected the decedent to surgery and anesthesia without adequate clearance from a cardiologist.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for damages, expenses, loss of anticipated benefits and services, and other economic and noneconomic damages, taxable court costs and interest. She is represented by Ben Salango and Patrick Salango of Preston & Salango, PLLC in Charleston.
