WEST UNION — A pipeline construction company is suing companies and individuals, citing alleged civil conspiracy, defamation and tortious interference.
Meridien Energy, LLC filed a complaint in Doddridge Circuit Court against Markwest Liberty Midstream & Resources, LLC, et al. alleging that they exaggerated and falsified allegations to induce termination of a contract and then sued Meridien Energy.
According to the complaint, the defendants conspired with one another to wrongfully induce a termination of the contractual relations between Meridien and MarkWest. Meridien claims MarkWest instructed its environmental inspector to falsity and exaggerate purported environmental issues on work performed by Meridian.
As a result, Meridian claims, it has suffered lost profits in an amount equal to what it otherwise would have received had it completed the contract in full.
The plaintiff holds Markwest Liberty Midstream & Resources, LLC, et al. responsible because they allegedly induced a wrongful termination by creating a putative justification by providing misleading, false and improper communications.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for compensatory and punitive damages in the amount of $500,000, with pre- and post-judgment interest, attorneys' fees, costs and any other relief that the Court deems just and proper. It is represented by J. Brian Jackson of McGuireWoods LLP in Charlottesville, Virginia.
