Buchanan Ingersoll issued the following announcement on Feb. 11.

Michael V. O’Shaughnessy joins Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney as a shareholder in the firm’s Intellectual Property section. O’Shaughnessy’s practice focuses on assisting biotech and pharmaceutical companies with patent litigation, portfolio management, patent prosecution and patent licenses, as well as all aspects of patent monetization or acquisition. He has extensive experience in inter partes proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and has represented clients in U.S. district courts, before the International Trade Commission and in appeals before the United States court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

“Litigation and IP litigation are the cornerstones of our prominent section and areas where we are seeing continued growth as we expand to meet our clients’ needs. Michael has extensive experience in Hatch-Waxman Act and Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act litigation and counts numerous appearances before the International Trade Commission – areas which are especially important to our clients,” said Lloyd Smith, co-chair of Buchanan’s IP Litigation group.

“Buchanan pairs a deep bench of experienced biotech and pharma litigators and PTAB practitioners with a world-class FDA practice. Other firms dream about creating such a collaborative practice. Buchanan has built it and I am so proud and excited to be a part of it. The firm’s culture and platform enable me to provide my clients with more flexibility and efficiency while working alongside fantastic attorneys,” said O’Shaughnessy.

O’Shaughnessy received his B.A. in Microbiology from Miami University and his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he received the Georgetown Law Journal Meritorious Service Award. He is an adjunct professor at George Mason University Law School and serves as chairman of the Board of Directors for the After-School All-Stars and is on the Board of Directors for Potomac Valley Swimming as the Safe Sport chair.
