BECKLEY — A woman is seeking damages against a healthcare company, alleging that she lost her job after being told to commit medical fraud.

Leigh Brooks filed a complaint in Raleigh Circuit Court against Appalachian Regional Healthcare Inc.

The suit states that in 2017, while Brooks was working for the defendant, she was allegedly instructed by the defendant to bill insurance or benefit providers for services that were never performed, which constitutes medical fraud. Brooks reported the misconduct, was told to take a leave of absence and has not been asked back to work.

Appalachian Regional Healthcare Inc. is accused of fraud, medical fraud and unfair termination of an employee.

The plaintiff is being represented by Anthony R. Veneri of Veneri Law Offices in Princeton.
