Civil suit claiming woman was sexually assaulted by police officer shifts to federal court

HUNTINGTON — A lawsuit in which a woman claims she was sexually assaulted when pulled over by a police officer has been removed to federal court.

Katrina Von Newman originally filed a complaint in Cabell Circuit Court against the Marshall University Police Department, Huntington Police Department and the City of Huntington. It later was removed to federal court.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 4, 2016, the plaintiff was pulled over by a Huntington Police Department officer. The suit states the defendant sexually assaulted the plaintiff after claiming he had a warrant for her arrest.

Since filing the lawsuit, the complaint has been removed to federal court.

The defendants are accused of sexual assault.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by herself.

The case has been assigned to Judge Paul T. Farrell.
