Widow sues scores of companies after husband's smoking-related cancer death

CHARLESTON — A widow alleges her husband died due to his use of cigarettes.

Alta Glover, widow of Brooks Glover, filed a complaint in the Kanawha Circuit Court against 3M Company, Bayer CropScience Inc., CBS Corp., et al, alleging they allowed her husband to smoke cigarettes.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for her husband's death from lung cancer as a direct result of his consumption of a pack of cigarettes a day from 1970 to 2000.

The defendants are accused of failing to prevent the plaintiff from smoking cigarettes.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by John Hurst of Motley Rice LLC in Morgantown.

The case has been assigned to Judge Jennifer Bailey.
