Couple claims QBE Insurance Corp. failed to pay for covered fire damages

RIPLEY — A couple claims their insurance company did not fully cover their damages from a fire.

Scot E. and Elizabeth A. Blankenship filed a complaint in Jackson Circuit Court against QBE Insurance Corp.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Jan. 27, 2018, when a fire started at the plaintiff''s property at 695 W. View Drive in Ripley. The suit states the defendant purposefully undervalued the plaintiff's property and underpaid them for the damages suffered.

The defendant is accused of unfair trade practices, unjust enrichment, negligence, breach of contract and bad faith.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Troy Giatras of The Giatras Law Firm in Charleston.

The case has been assigned to Judge Lora Dyer.
