CHARLESTON —  An estate administrator is suing an assisted living home, alleging a resident suffered and died due to the negligence of its staff.

Tina White, as executrix of the estate of Mary Jane Knighton, filed a complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against Sunbridge Dunbar Health Care LLC, dba Dunbar Center, and Genesis Healthcare LLC.

The suit states Knighton was a resident at the defendant's nursing home beginning on Feb. 9, 2018. Knighton was under the care of the defendant as she was prone to falls and other issues related to her health. During her time at the defendant's, Knighton allegedly was caused to suffer from falling, dehydration, exacerbation of kidney disease, hypoglycemia and infection. As a result of complications stemming from the defendant's alleged negligence, Knighton was caused to suffer and eventually die.

The defendant is accused of wrongful death and negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Jeff Stewart of Stewart Bell PLLC in Charleston.

The case has been assigned to Judge Joanna Tabit.
