BECKLEY – An Oak Hill woman is suing a doctor who allegedly was negligent in the details of a hip replacement.

Marian Thorne filed a complaint in Raleigh Circuit Court against Prakash R. Puranik M.D. alleging medical professional negligence.

The suit states that the plaintiff fell on April 16, 2017, sustained a fractured left hip, and was transferred to Appalachian Regional Hospital where she had hip replacement surgery. She alleges the defendant selected an inappropriate hip replacement for her and that she complained of pain after the surgery.

The suit states the plaintiff sought a second opinion from another physician in September 2017, who recognized a broken internal joint prosthesis and performed replacement surgery.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant breached his duty of care by choosing an improper implant.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Christopher D. Pence and James P. McHugh of Hardy Pence PLLC in Charleston.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Robert A. Burnside Jr.
