BECKLEY – A Raleigh County woman is suing a college over allegations she was sexually harassed by an employee while attending the institution.

Brittany Lynch filed a complaint in Raleigh Circuit Court against Valley Training Centers Inc., doing business as Valley College, and Phillip Dues alleging sexual harassment, retaliation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent hiring and other counts.

The suit states that the plaintiff was attending the defendant's institution to gain medical certification as an assistant. The plaintiff alleges that she was sexually harassed by Dues, a representative of the college, who would regularly make sexually explicit statements to the plaintiff and would try to meet privately with the plaintiff. The plaintiff alleges she reported the situation to the institution but the school failed to discipline and/or suspend Dues.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Adam Taylor of Taylor & Hinkle in Beckley.

The case has been assigned to Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick.
