WINFIELD — A man is suing a building company, alleging the company's negligence resulted in a sinkhole on his property.

William Sturgeon filed a complaint in Putnam Circuit Court against H&L Builders Inc.

The suit states the plaintiff bought a residence at 421 Arrowhead Drive and in 2013 began to notice problems with the drainage system on their property. When the plaintiff had an inspector come out to the plaintiff's property on April 4, 2014, it was determined that large pipes had been improperly installed. The plaintiff alleges he had to pay $11,000 for repairs. In early 2018, the plaintiff found a sinkhole on his property and had to have it removed. Plaintiff claims the defendant's negligence and failure to complete work in a professional manner caused the damage.

The defendant is accused of negligence and failure to perform in a workmanlike manner.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by David Adkins of The Adkins Law Firm in Hurricane.
