WILLIAMSON – A Mingo County couple alleges a physician and a medical facility failed to timely diagnose appendicitis.

Marsha Stanley and Steven Stanley filed a complaint in Mingo Circuit Court against Radiology Inc. and Dr. Charles Siegler alleging negligence.

The suit states that Marsha Stanley presented to the emergency room at Williamson Memorial Hospital on Oct. 20, 2017, with abdominal pain and an abdominal and pelvic CT scan were ordered. The plaintiffs allege Siegler negligently read the scan and reported that there were no acute findings. Marsha Stanley alleges she was prescribed medication and discharged.

On Oct. 22, 2017, the suit states Marsha Stanley again presented to the hospital with complaints of pain and she was diagnosed with acute appendicitis with a possible perforation of the tip of the appendix. The plaintiff was transferred to a Kentucky medical center for surgery.

The plaintiffs allege that due to the defendants' failure to diagnose the issue in a timely manner, Marsha Stanley's appendix ruptured and became septic.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by H. Truman Chafin and Letitia Neese Chafin of The Chafin Law Firm PLLC in Williamson.

The case has been assigned to Judge Miki Thompson.
