Nelson Mullins issued the following announcement on June 25.

The National Law Journal has ranked Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough No. 63 by the 2019 National Law Journal Top 500 (NLJ 500), a jump of 21 spots from its place in the 2018 listings. The NLJ 500 is the National Law Journal’s survey of the 500 largest law firms in the United States covering the previous calendar year.

In an article on the rankings, the NLJ records the 21-spot leap as “the largest jump of any firm that fell within the top 100 of last year’s NLJ 500 rankings.” The Firm’s 2018 merger with Florida firm Broad and Cassel, along with opening a Baltimore office in the same year, catapulted Nelson Mullins from its previous spot at No. 84.

The 32.3% increase comes after Nelson Mullins closed out 2018 with 707 attorneys, including 404 total partners and 181 equity partners, and Atlanta holding onto the title for the Firm’s largest office.

“If you look at our trajectory over the past 10 years, we have been a safe harbor for attorneys after the financial crisis,” Managing Partner Jim Lehman told NLJ. “But our goal is not to be a specific size. When firms forget it is all about the client, they forget why we are here.”
