Inmate claims he was assaulted by Logan County correctional officer

LOGAN — An inmate is suing a correctional officer, alleging he was assaulted.

Willard James Brown III filed a complaint in Logan Circuit Court against Correctional Officer Bassham.

The suit states the plaintiff was an inmate at South Western Regional Jail on June 5, 2018 when then the defendant entered the plaintiff's pod. The defendant is accused of intentionally slamming the plaintiff's cell door, striking his head, and then using OC spray against the plaintiff, causing the plaintiff to suffer burning and require medical attention.

The defendant is accused of intentional infliction of emotional distress, battery and excessive force.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Paul Stroebel of Stroebel & Johnson PLLC in Charleston.
