Man injured in motorcycle accident claims physician's negligence left him paralyzed

CHARLESTON — A man is suing a doctor, alleging he was rendered paralyzed due to negligence.

Michael Rodgers filed a complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against John R. Orphanos, M.D. 

The suit states the plaintiff was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center on June 4, 2017 for injuries he'd sustained in a motorcycle accident. The plaintiff was prescribed a course of treatment and was scheduled for surgery on June 6, 2017. Following the surgery, the plaintiff allegedly suffered a completed loss of motor function and sensation to his bilateral lower extremities. The plaintiff had a second surgery and suffered paraplegia, allegedly due to the procedure.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by P. Gregory Haddad of Bailey & Glasser LLP in Morgantown.

The case has been assigned to Judge Tera Salango.
