CHARLESTON — A woman is suing a doctor and medical team for allegedly failing to properly diagnose and treat her condition.

Kelly Vickers filed a complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against John L. Goad M.D., Samuel Groves M.D., and Charleston Area Medical Center Inc.

The suit states the plaintiff had a consultation on Feb. 28, 2017, when she was ordered a myocardial perfusion scan by the defendant. The defendant concluded that the plaintiff needed an invasive heart catheterization procedure. The plaintiff was contacted by the defendant and told that she needed the procedure and came into CAMC on March 15, 2017. The medical record allegedly failed to show the plaintiff had met with Groves on that day and instead showed that she saw a nurse practitioner. The notes also allegedly did not document the treatment options given to the plaintiff. There allegedly was also no executed consent form for the procedure to be completed by Groves. The plaintiff was taken to the catheterization lab on March 16, 2017 and the plaintiff's right coronary artery was dissected. The plaintiff began to experience chest burning and bilateral arm symptoms. The plaintiff reportedly needed a 12-lead electrocardiogram, but no one came to administer it.

The defendant is accused of negligence and liability.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by R. Dean Hartley of Hartley Law Group in Charleston.
