BECKLEY — A couple is suing CitiFinancial for inflating a loan and causing them damages.

James Daniel and Terry Daniel filed the lawsuit against CitiFinancial, Wilmington Savings Fund Society and Carrington Mortgage Services, alleging the companies inflated the value of their home and put their home in jeopardy of foreclosure, according to a complaint filed in Raleigh Circuit Court.

The Daniels claim they inherited a parcel of land in 1997 and they borrowed $35,100 in 1998 for a home loan.

In 2000, CitiFinancial hired an appraiser for the property and valued the property at $78,000, which exceeded the value of the property, according to the suit.

The plaintiffs claim the mortgage was illegal and they were unaware of the illegality of the mortgage until 2018.

The plaintiffs are seeking compensatory damages. They are represented by Jed Nolan and Daniel F. Hedges of Mountain State Justice.
