Man claims Marshall University medical staff's improper diagnosis caused need for partial bowel removal

State Court
Medical malpractice 02

HUNTINGTON – A Cabell County man alleges that negligent medical care led to the perforation of his colon.

Brandon Rexroad and Amy Rexroad filed a complaint in Cabell Circuit Court against Marshall University's Board of Governors alleging medical malpractice and negligence.

The suit states Brandon Rexroad sought medical treatment from MUBOG medical providers on Sept. 20, 2017. He alleges they failed to correctly diagnose his diverticulitis and colitis and instead treated him for constipation. Rexroad also alleges they performed a colonoscopy "on a very poorly prepped colon" that led to a perforation of the colon and partial colectomy.

The plaintiffs seek monetary and other just relief. They are represented by Sam Harrold III of Mountain State Law in Clarksburg.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Christopher D. Chiles.
