CHARLESTON – A Kanawha County woman is suing a Charleston spa after she suffered second-degree chemical burns allegedly from a facial.

Samantha Owens filed a complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against Terry Pack, individually and in her capacity as owner of The Face Place of Bridge Road LLC, alleging negligence and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Owens alleges she received a wine cabernet peel facial on Jan. 31 at The Face Place Salon in Charleston. She alleges that during the one-hour facial process, one layer after another was applied to skin and that she complained of her face burning. After experiencing "extremely red" skin and dark spots on her face after the procedure, she complained to Pack and was told her results were "normal" and that in a few days she would have "great results."

On Feb. 2, Owens alleges she sought medical treatment at Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital and was diagnosed with second-degree chemical burns, which she alleges may leave scarring and require plastic surgery.

Owens seeks compensatory and general damages, a trial by jury and all other just and proper relief. She is represented by Michael Carey of The Carey Law Office PLLC in Charleston.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Louis Bloom.
