HUNTINGTON – An Ohio couple blames a Huntington business for the man’s injuries he sustained at work when a steel plate nearly severed his toe.
Bryan R. and Katherine Rozzi filed their complaint in Cabell Circuit Court against Huntington Steel and Supply Company.
Bryan Rozzi says he was working as a burn operator at the Huntington plant when a narrow steel plate about 8 feet tall and weighing 500 to 600 lbs. fell to the floor, striking his right foot just behind the steel toe of his work boot.
“The steel plate fell like a guillotine and almost severed Bryan Rozzi’s right great toe from his right foot,” the complaint states.
Rozzi says he has suffered serious physical and psychological injuries including permanent disfigurement; permanent loss of function, range of motion and strength in his right ankle, foot, great toe and knee; permanent loss of feeling; and development of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. He says he also has undergone surgical procedures and incurred past and future medical expenses.
He says he also has endured pain, suffering, lost wages and benefits, lost earning capacity, aggravation, inconvenience, mental anguish, anxiety and other damages. His wife says she was deprived of consortium, society and comfort by her husband.
They seek economic and noneconomic compensatory damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, court costs, attorney fees and other relief.
The couple is being represented by Tony O’Dell and Max Corley of Tiano O’Dell in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Gregory Howard.
