Man says he tripped in stairwell at Charleston hotel

CHARLESTON – A Raleigh County man blames a Charleston hotel for injuries he sustained from falling in the stairwell.

Jeffrey Spicer filed his complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against BBL Carlton Charleston House LLC.

According to his complaint, Spicer was entering the Four Points Sheraton in Charleston from the parking garage. As he entered the stairwell, he says he slipped on an unknown liquid substance and fell down the stairs.

He says he had to go to the emergency room and receive treatment for the next year as a result of his injuries.

In addition to his physical injuries, Spicer says he has sustained damages in the form of medical bills, lost time at work, loss of capacity to enjoy life, pain and suffering.

He seeks economic and non-economic damages, lost wages, special damages, compensatory damages, incidental damages, liquidated damages, consequential damages, nominal damages, punitive damages, attorney fees, court costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief.

Spicer is being represented by Beckley attorney Brandon S. Steele. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Joanna Tabit.
