West Virginia Governor's Office issued the following announcement on July 18.

As a mark of respect for the memory and longstanding public service of Representative John Lewis, of Georgia, and in accordance with President Donald J. Trump’s proclamation, Gov. Jim Justice has issued a proclamation, ordering that all United States and West Virginia flags on all State-owned facilities be displayed at half-staff, beginning IMMEDIATELY and continuing until dusk, Saturday, July 18, 2020.

“Representative Lewis was a civil rights pioneer and was one of our leaders in the fight for justice and equality for all people,” Gov. Justice said. “He made our country better in many ways. Cathy and I pass along our prayers and deepest condolences to the Lewis family and everyone who loved him.”
