Woman says she was injured during visit to Putnam County park

State Court
Valleypark

WINFIELD – A Charleston woman says she was injured while visiting a Putnam County park.

Teika Beatty filed her complaint against the Putnam County Parks and Recreation Commission in Putnam Circuit Court.

According to her complaint, Beatty was visiting Valley Park in Hurricane on November 15, 2019, and shopping at the West Virginia Kids Consignment Sale taking place at the park.

As she was walking to her vehicle after shopping, Beatty says she suddenly fell and hit her head and the left side of her body on the ground. She says no outdoor lighting was being used.

After being assisted by a security guard, Beatty says she went to Charleston Area Medical Center’s Teays Valley Hospital for treatment for the injuries she sustained to her back, neck, left foot and ankle.

She blames the defendant’s negligence for her injuries that include soft tissue dysfunction and functional limitations requiring long-term medical treatment. She says she no longer can engage in the physical activities she once could. She also says she has suffered permanent psychological and emotional injuries.

Beatty seeks compensatory damages as well as attorney fees and court costs.

She is being represented by Michael M. Cary of Cary Law Office in Charleston.
