Former employee sues Gestamp West Virginia for discrimination

State Court
Madisondiscrimination

CHARLESTON — A woman is suing Gestamp West Virginia for discrimination.

Gestamp West Virginia and Scott Hughes were both named as defendants in the suit.

Shondell Houston was employed at Gestamp's South Charleston facility from Jan. 17, 2018, until Jan. 19, 2019, as a quality engineer, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Houston claims she was told to "build up" documentation on getting an employee terminated and when she questioned why, she was told that the employee was telling Honda that Gestamp was producing bad parts. She was told to find a reason to fire the employee, but she said the employee was a good worker and no way she could fire the employee.

Houston claims after the incident, she was illegally targeted and she suffered adverse employment action.

The defendants violated the West Virginia Human Rights Act, retaliatory discrimination and a hostile work environment, according to the suit.

Houston is seeking compensatory damages. She is represented by D. Adrian Hoosier II of Hoosier Law Firm.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Joanna Tabit.
