West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals issued the following announcement on Feb. 25.
At the West Virginia Legislature’s request, the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia created a video of this year’s budget presentation by Chief Justice Evan Jenkins. The video is in addition to his in-person presentations to the House and Senate Finance Committees earlier this month.
The video was transmitted to the legislature on Wednesday and is now available on the West Virginia Judiciary YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/8OnR5gjcCcI.
“I appreciated the opportunity to present our annual budget request to the legislature. We’ve decided to go the extra mile and post the video on the Supreme Court’s YouTube Channel so anyone, anywhere can learn more about the important work we do and how the taxpayer’s dollars are spent. This is just another example of our commitment to being more transparent and accountable to the public. While the whole Judicial Branch costs the taxpayers less than 5 percent of the state’s general revenue budget, the work we do is so important to a civil society. It is also important to point out that our budget request is less than the amount the legislature funded to the courts five years ago. I’m truly honored to represent the more than 1,500 dedicated employees of the judiciary that go to work each and every day, in every courthouse, in every county in West Virginia to ensure justice is administered fairly, equally and without bias,” said Chief Justice Evan Jenkins.
The West Virginia Judiciary will continue to add public information to its website and social media platforms as part of the Supreme Court’s mission to be accountable, accessible and transparent.
