New Cumberland sues Mon Power for voltage issues

NEW CUMBERLAND — The city of New Cumberland is suing Monongahela Power Company for voltage issues have have caused it to replace a motor to its water distribution infrastructure multiple times since 2019.

Mon Power services the plaintiff's water distribution infrastructure, including its Well Number 1-C and on June 12, 2019, the motor for the well had to be replaced, according to a complaint filed in Hancock Circuit Court.

The city claims on July 8, 2019, it experienced voltage issues to the well and contacted Mon Power about the issue and the power company said it would track the voltage, but it did not do so and on July 20, 2019, the motor again failued due to improper voltage. On Sept. 23, 2019, the motor had to be replaced again.

The motor had to be replaced on several other occasions in December 2019, March 2020, June, September and November.

"Plaintiff has requested that the Defendant resolve the voltage issues with its systems and lines, the Defendant has failed to do so, and the issues that have caused damage to the Plaintiff still exist," the complaint states.

The city is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. It is represented by Kevin M. Pearl of Frankovitch, Anetakis, Simon, DeCapio and Pearl in Weirton.
