WHEELING — A man is suing Tri-State Emergency Physicians for the death of his wife's death.

Tri-State Emergency Physicians, Robert T. Hartman and Dr. Brian E. Rose were all named as defendants in the suit.

Jane Ann Hollingshead went to MedExpress on Feb. 11, 2019, complaining of body aches and pain in her right arm and shoulder and was diagnosed with influenza, according to a complaint filed in Ohio Circuit Court. The following day she went to Ohio Valley Medical Center and on Feb. 13, 2019, she saw her primary care physician, who advised her to go to the emergency department.

Randall A. Hollingshead claims his wife went to Wheeling Hospital for an evaluation. Rose and Hartman cared for her at the hospital and ordered a CT scan and an x-ray, which revealed an enlarged spleen. Her bloodwork also revealed abnormal results consistent with an infection.

Randall Hollingshead claims Rose and Hartman failed to properly investigate the cause of the swelling and discharged Jane Hollingshead. She was taken the next day via ambulance to Wheeling Hospital again and she was admitted to the ICU and she developed septic shock and severe metabolic acidosis. She died on Feb. 15, 2019.

The plaintiff is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. He is represented by Robert P. Fitzsimmons and Brent E. Wear of Fitzsimmons Law Firm in Wheeling.
