CLARKSBURG — A man is suing the federal government alleging his father suffered from hypoglycemia and died while at the Louis A. Johnson Veterans' Affairs Medical Center in Clarksburg.

Raymond Golden was a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army. He went to the VAMC in Clarksburg in June 2018 and died as a result of the medical center breaching its duties to keep him safe, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia.

Raymond Golden was a non-insulin dependent type 2 diabetic and did not require insulin. On June 4, 2018, he suffered from severe hypoglycemia and his blood sugar was recorded as 7 mg/dL. He died on June 8, 2018.

"Upon information and belief, prior to his admission, the Louis A. Johnson VAMC in Clarksburg, West Virginia experienced a noticeable and statistically appreciable high death rate in patients admitted on Floor 3A," the complaint states. "A clear pattern emerged in these dying patients demonstrating a sudden, unexpected severe decline in their respective medical condition during the night shift hours followed by death in patients admitted on floor 3A."

Ronnie Golden is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. He is represented by Kelly Elswick-Hall and Marvin W. Masters of The Masters Law Firm.
