WHEELING — A West Virginia couple claims Lereta LLC violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Lereta falsely reported that Donald Hill and Connie Hill defaulted on their mortgage loan by failing to pay their property taxes, according to a complaint filed in Ohio Circuit Court.

The Hills claim they obtained a reverse mortgage secured by their home and have diligently paid their taxes, but the loan servicer purchased a consumer report from Lereta that included property tax payment records and the company followed "no reasonable procedure" to ensure the accuracy of the records.

Lereta's false report put the Hills in jeopardy of losing their home and they want the company to fix its report, according to the suit.

The Hills are seeking actual and punitive damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. They are represented by Jason E. Causey of Bordas & Bordas, Jed R. Nolan of Nolan Consumer Law and Eric J. Buckner of Katz, Kantor, Stonestreet & Buckner.
