CHARLESTON — A renter in the Knollview Village Apartments sued the apartment complex and its management company, Pison Management, after he and his partner suffered from a bug bed infestation.

Brenton Hale claims he and his partner, Rachel Karson, began to notice bites all of their bodies in late January and early February of 2019, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Hale claims the defendants failed to properly inspect and clean the apartment complex. He claims knowing about the infestation would have been a deciding factor regarding leasing a unit at the complex and that failing to inform him of the infestation was a breach of Pison's duty.

Hale and Karson claim upon moving in, they were forced to pay Terminix to kill the bedbugs and prevent further infestation, as well as paying other out-of-pocket expenses.

Hale is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. He is represented by Troy N. Giatras, Matthew Stonestreet and Phillip A. Childs of the Giatras Law Firm in Charleston.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Tera Salango.
