Steptoe & Johnson attorney Michael J. Moore has been named the Young Lawyer of the Year by the Young Lawyer Section of the West Virginia State Bar.
Moore has been practicing labor and employment law at Steptoe & Johnson since 2015. He advises clients in the courtroom as well as at the negotiating table when they are faced with labor and employment disputes. He counsels them on unionization efforts and defends them before administrative bodies including the National Labor Relations Board and has successfully argued before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia.
In his career and life, Moore embodies servant leadership. He is an active volunteer in his community, serving in leadership positions with the United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties as well as the Salvation Army of Clarksburg. Moore provides pro bono legal services to the Salvation Army while helping to raise funds for the organization’s most crucial programs. He is also a member of the Harrison County Student Achievement Board, which awards scholarships to college bound high school seniors. What’s more, he serves as a member of the Fire Civil Service Commission of the City of Bridgeport where he uses his experience as an employment lawyer to assist with recruitment of potential firefighters and with employment disputes when they arise.
The Young Lawyer of the Year Award was presented at the West Virginia State Bar Annual Meeting. The award is given annually to an attorney licensed no more than 10 years, or who is 35 years of age or younger, whose professional accomplishments have advanced the administration of justice, and who has exhibited a commitment to serving the community.
