MORGANTOWN — A Morgantown woman is suing the City of Westover and Mayor Cranston David Johnson alleging she was retaliated against after reporting acts of wrongdoing by the city's police department.

Christine Riley was employed by the City of Westover as an administrative assistant in the police department and witnessed wrongdoing, including violations of civil rights, targeted and/or harassed citizens, racism and a culture of aggression and disrespect, among other things by a specific officer, according to a complaint filed in Monongalia Circuit Court.

Riley claims she and 10 other like-minded officers drafted a letter addressed to the city and its officials and outlined the wrongdoing and demanded the officer be released from his duties or investigated, however, after nearly two months, no action was taken.

Riley claims on Oct. 27, she was brought into Johnson's office and informed she was being terminated from her employment. She claims she was discharged illegally and wrongfully.

Riley is seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She is being represented by John R. Angotti, David J. Straface and Chad C. Groome of Angotti & Straface in Morgantown.
