CHARLESTON — A woman is suing Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority alleging negligence that caused a vehicle accident.

Nancy Kinder, an employee of KVRTA and Deatra Markham were also named as defendants in the suit.

Rebecca Thomas claims she was traveling behind Markham on MacCorkle Avenue in Charleston when Markham made a sudden stop, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.

Thomas was able to come to a complete stop, but Kinder, who was operating the KVRTA behind Thomas, failed to stop and struck Thomas' vehicle, which caused her vehicle to strike Markham's vehicle.

Thomas was seriously injured in the car accident, according to the suit. She claims KVRTA breached its duty of care by failing to properly hire and train Kinder. She claims Markham breached her duty of care by operating her car in a negligent manner.

Thomas is seeking compensatory damages with pre- and post-judgment interest. She is represented by Truman C. Griffith of Warner Law Offices.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Maryclaire Akers.
