PRINCETON — Erie Insurance Company is suing Ford Motor Company and Ramey Ford Lincoln Princeton for a vehicle that it claims caught fire and was rendered a total loss.

Joshua Craze, who is insured by Erie, purchased a vehicle from the defendants in February 2019 and on March 18, 2019, the vehicle had approximately 600 miles on it when it caught fire in Craze's driveway, according to a complaint filed in Mercer Circuit Court.

Erie claims it made payments in the amount of $38,349.38. It claims the defendants were negligent in allowing the vehicle to be defective and be distributed and sold. Because of Craze's insurance policy with Erie, Erie was subrogated to the rights of Craze to the extend of the payments under the policy.

Erie is seeking judgment in the amount of $38,349.39 with pre- and post-judgment interest. Erie is represented by Ryan S. Marsteller of Bailes Craig Yon & Sellards in Huntington.

The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Mark Wills.
